Gov. Armstrong shares his thoughts on school meals bill failing during special session

LISTEN: Governor Kelly Armstrong’s conversation with Jay Thomas

NORTH DAKOTA – On The Jay Thomas Show, Governor Kelly Armstrong said he can see the arguments on both sides of the debate of having state money pay for school meals in North Dakota.

A bill on that was passed by the House, but failed in the Senate during a special session.

The group Together For School Meals says this reaffirms its commitment to pass a ballot measure to put paying for breakfast and lunch in schools into the North Dakota constitution.

“Regardless of how you personally feel about the issue, I don’t know who’s going to spend money to defeat it. It polls at minimum 70% to 30%,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong says the debate on school meals has gotten so much attention since it’s been a hot topic for the last three or four legislative sessions.
