20-year-old Fargo man details his run for Mayor

FARGO, N.D. – A 20-year-old National Guardsman and Fargo Davies grad is running for the City of Fargo’s top job as Mayor.

Jake Coulter graduated from Fargo Davies High School and told The Jay Thomas Show that his run for mayor started after returning from AIT military training.

“Once I got back from AIT, I had a new perspective on things,” he said. “I saw issues within our city, especially when it comes to spending money and many of those things, and I was like, ‘You know, I’m just going to try.’”

Coulter said there’s an issue in city leadership.

“Many of our leaders, I feel like they act on their own and don’t use each other to be more successful in the city,” he said.

Coulter said changes need to be made regarding the City’s policies surrounding tax incentives.

“Honestly, we need to be very strict,” Coulter said. “And I will be very strict on giving any tax incentive.”

He takes issue with some of the businesses who have applied for tax breaks.

“These businesses come in. They offer the jobs, maybe (they) don’t hire as many people as they thought they would,” Coulter said. “And then all of a sudden now we’re losing out on this tax money. They took this piece of land, and the city kind of got screwed.”
