Public comment period during Moorhead School Board meetings aren’t livestreamed

MOORHEAD, Minn. – A Moorhead Area Public Schools spokesperson told Flag Family News the public comment period of Moorhead School Board meetings aren’t livestreamed or broadcast because there’s no statutory requirement to do so.

Brenda Richman said Minnesota’s open meeting law states school board meetings are required to be open and accessible and decisions related to meeting formats are established in alignment with the Minnesota School Boards Association.

That organization says its policies recommend school boards encourage public discussion while recognizing that boards may adopt reasonable time, place and manner restrictions to facilitate free discussion.

In November 2025, Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney said broadcasting of the City Commission’s public comment period would no longer happen because people were using that time to attack commissioners. The next week, commissioners reversed that decision.
