FARGO, N.D. – The Cass County Commission unanimously approves Sheriff Jesse Jahner’s request to reclassify a deputy as a sergeant.
Jahner has moved the patrol department to 12 hour shifts and needed another sergeant so a sergeant and corporal will be on duty during all shifts.
The sheriff says the move will help deputies cover the county better.
“The biggest ask of all of our community members from our office is they want visibility. I did a study on the current hours that are patrol staff are doing working right now. They’re averaging 11 hours,” Jahner said.
Six deputies are stationed in cities that contract with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Twenty others patrol the 1,768 square miles of the county.
Jahner said the move will cost the Sheriff’s Office $12,000 this year which will be allocated for in its current budget.
