FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A federal judge has granted a request to delay the trial of a Spirit Lake Tribe member accused of killing his brother and a dating partner.
D’Angelo Hunt’s trial was scheduled to begin Feb. 10 in Fargo. It’s now set for July 14, 2026.
Chief Judge Peter D. Welte approved the delay on Thursday, February 5 citing good cause to continue the trial. Defense attorney Mark Meyer requested the continuance to further investigate, review discovery, and prepare for trial.
Hunt consented to the delay and waived his speedy trial rights. Federal prosecutors did not object to the motion.
Hunt faces 10 federal charges, including second-degree murder in the death of his brother, Isaac Hunt, and voluntary manslaughter for the death of his dating partner, identified in court documents as J.M.P. Hunt had previously been connected to Jemini Posey before she went missing in January 2024.
Additional charges include six counts of felony assault, tampering with evidence, and use of fire to commit a felony. Prosecutors have said there are more than 300 pieces of evidence with FBI serial numbers.
The trial is expected to last four weeks. If convicted of second-degree murder, Hunt faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Hunt pleaded not guilty to all charges in December.
