VICTORIA, Minn. – Republican Dr. Scott Jensen drops out of the race for Minnesota governor and begins a campaign for State Auditor saying he’ll work on combating fraud in state government.

“We need a watchdog. We need someone who is absolutely going to look out for the welfare of Minnesotans. We need someone that’s going to heal our businesses. We need to heal our brokenness,” Jensen said in a video on social media.

The 2022 Republican nominee for governor said there are many talented candidates campaigning for governor and he wants to rebuild trust in state government.

“I am ready and determined to be the person who opens up the hood and looks at what the engine of our government is doing and not doing and fix it,” Jensen said.

Jensen said he’s done this with his patients, as chairman of audit section of a billion dollar bank for more than a decade and as a chairman for Minnesota Senate committees focused on providing accessible and affordable health care.

Jensen came in fourth place with 6.4% of votes in the Republican Party of Minnesota’s gubernatorial straw poll held on caucus night last week. He received 139 more votes than those who voted undecided.
