UPDATE (Valley News Live) – A 45-year-old woman is recovering from serious injuries after a violent assault at a trailer park on Fourth Avenue Northwest Saturday morning, February 7.

Authorities say 22-year-old Cyrus Lee Olson forced his way into the woman’s apartment and stabbed her multiple times.

Neighbor intervenes during attack

Neighbor, Keath Sleen heard the commotion and knew he had to act.

“I just started hearing some rambunctious noises and somebody screaming and ‘must be screwing around’ is what I thought,” Sleen said.

Authorities say if it weren’t for Sleen’s quick thinking, this could have been a homicide investigation. He opened his window and tried to distract the attacker.

“Even screaming, yelling at him, and throwed a couple chairs at him still barely broke his attention,” Sleen said.

Sleen called 911. His distraction bought enough time for deputies to arrive.

“He was so much taller than me, I couldn’t hardly get my leg out or my foot all the way in. Any time I did get my weight somewhat all the way in, he was already lunging at me,” Sleen said.

Victim airlifted to medical center

The victim managed to escape to a nearby friend’s apartment despite her injuries. Perham EMS treated the victim at the scene before rushing her to Perham Hospital.

She was later airlifted to a regional medical center. Her condition is listed as serious.

“I’m pretty shook up just on her behalf and just hoping the best for her,” Sleen said.

Olson is being held at the Otter Tail County Detention Facility on multiple felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, aggravated robbery, and second-degree assault.

Authorities have not released information about a possible motive or any relationship between Olson and the victim. Olson is awaiting his initial court appearance.
