On Thursday, March 19, the North Dakota State women’s basketball team defeated Chattanooga 75-62 in the first round of the WBIT tournament. The Bison took a 4-2 lead with 8:40 remaining in the first quarter and never looked back.
Avery Koenen powered NDSU with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jocelyn Schiller followed with 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Karrington Asp chipped in 13 points off the bench followed by Marisa Frost’s 10 points and four rebounds.
The Bison connected on 30-63 shots (48 percent) from the field along with making 12-18 free throws (67 percent). NDSU struggled from downtown, only making 3-12 three-pointers (25 percent). NDSU forced 15 turnovers that resulted in scoring 19 points. They also out rebounded the Mocs 36-26.
The Bison will be back in action on Sunday against Columbia in the second round of the WBIT tournament. The game will be played at Scheels Center in Fargo. The tip-off time is still to be determined.
