Moorhead High has a new girls varsity hockey head coach. Grand Forks native, Casey Purpur has been named the new head coach of the program.
Purpur comes to Moorhead after spending the past eight seasons as an assistant coach with Edina. He helped guide the Hornets to a state tournament appearance in all eight seasons along with securing three state championships. He also coached more than 25 Division I prospects at Edina.
During his playing career, he was the captain on Grand Forks Central’s 2010 state championship team. Following his high school career, Purpur played juniors hockey with the Alexandria Blizzard (NAHL) before playing Division I hockey at Northern Michigan.
Purpur replaces Ryan Kraft who spent the past seven seasons leading the Spuds guiding the program to a pair of state tournament berths.
He is the grandson of former NHL players andNorth Dakota hockey head coach Clifford “Fido” Purpur. Casey and his wife Colin have two children, Louie (4) and Goldie (2), and a family dog, Charlie.
