BENSON COUNTY, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The man barricaded inside a Benson County home late last month, where a fire destroyed the structure, has been identified and charged.
According to the Benson County Sheriff’s Office, Dwayne Bachmeier faces felony charges of two counts of terrorizing, four counts of endangerment by fire or explosion, and child abuse. He is currently held at the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center.
Bachmeier was hospitalized following the March 24 incident and received medical attention until his release April 6. He was immediately taken into custody on an arrest warrant upon his release.
Authorities were originally called to the home March 24 after reports of a disturbance. Officers found a fire in the front yard, and Bachmeier barricaded inside the home, which also had smoke coming from it. The home was later deemed a total loss.
The investigation is ongoing.
