Cass County burn restrictions in effect

CASS COUNTY, N.D. – The Cass County Commission has declared a fire emergency and put burn restrictions in place through November 30 because of dry land conditions and hot and windy weather conditions.

The restrictions are in effect when the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating for the county is high, very high or extreme and/or when a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service.

No burning including campfires, controlled burns, cropland, garbage and fireworks will be allowed. The only burning allowed is through grills, patio fireplaces, gas champ stoves on hard, non-organic surfaces 14 feet away from vegetation with an extinguisher nearby will be allowed.

Violations could be a class B misdemeanor and result in 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,500.
