FARGO, N.D. — In a unanimous vote Thursday, the Fargo Human Rights Commission (HRC) has charted their next steps forward after the Fargo City Commission, earlier this year, signaled a possible end to its work.
Chairman Sekou Sirleaf explained the recommendation prior to a vote Thursday afternoon in the commission’s regularly scheduled meeting.
“The recommendation is to keep the HRC as is, with a pause on all HRC activities,” he said.
The move, if approved by the commission, means thee group would stop meeting until the next Fargo City Commission is seated this summer. At that point, members would meet with the new members of the Commission to gauge their interest and chart a further path forward.
The North Dakota Human Rights Coalition has come together with Fargo’s HRC to explore different opportunities for the community, should the Fargo City Commission chose to end the work of its HRC.
The Fargo City Commission will take up the HRC’s recommendation at a future meeting.
