SAINT PAUL, Minn. – A gun violence bill that includes an assault weapons and large-capacity magazine ban and $1 million in school safety grants to nonpublic schools passed in the Minnesota Senate in a party line 34 to 33 vote.

  • Colt AR-15
  • Daewoo Max-1 and Max-2
  • Famas MAS semiautomatic rifle type;

The bill would also give $2.7 million for school-linked behavioral health grants and $19 million for school safety aid program funding.

We have two weeks left in Session. Instead of addressing affordability or stopping fraud, Senate Democrats wasted time today on a massive gun control bill that will never ever become law (and is likely unconstitutional anyway). They are only interested in slogans, not solutions,” a press release from Minnesota Senate Republicans reads.

“We know that gun violence is complex, and this bill is a layered approach to dealing with it,” DFL Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy said. “It protects our schools and children, invests in mental health intervention and prevention, and it will keep the most dangerous weapons off our streets.”

The legislation is doubtful to pass in the House which is tied with 67 seats each for DFLers and Republicans.
