(Anoka County, MN) — An Anoka County judge is considering a ruling in a case that could affect more than 50,00 potential voters in Minnesota.
The judge heard arguments yesterday in a case seeking to block the restoration of voting rights for some convicted felons. Minnesota lawmakers approved a measure earlier this year to allow felons on probation or parole to vote. A conservative group sued to block the law, saying the Minnesota constitution requires a felon to complete all aspects of sentencing before having voting rights restored. The judge has promised to issue a ruling in a timely fashion.
An appeal is expected by either party, no matter what the judge decides.
