FPD collaborates with area agencies for traffic enforcement campaign

(Fargo, ND) – The Fargo Police Department issued 60 citations during a recent increased traffic enforcement effort, according to information released by the city on Tuesday.

On Friday, June 14, from approximately 5 p.m. until early morning on Saturday, June 15, The Fargo Police Department (FPD) partnered with the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) for increased traffic enforcement in problem areas for speeding and exhibition driving in Fargo. The goal was to conduct enhanced law enforcement activities in partnership with law enforcement partners to maintain a safe environment for the citizens of Fargo, visitors and surrounding communities.

The enforcement resulted in 63 traffic stops by the agencies.

Of the 60 citations, 22 were for speeding. Nine were for expired registration and six were for red light violations.

At approximately 6 p.m., there was an instance of fleeing a traffic stop where a group of motorcyclists fled FPD officers and they were unable to be located.

In addition to the traffic detail, increased foot patrols were assigned to the Downtown area to have an increased police presence to address quality of life issues.

“The Fargo Police Department partnered with the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office in this effort to deter and detect street racers, speeders and loud exhaust and attempt to identify and charge any motorists who flee law enforcement,” Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski said. “As the evening continued, the increased presence also concentrated on Downtown Fargo as we continue to work to ensure downtown safety and quality of life, while deterring criminal activity.”
