Jamestown woman sentenced following firearms trafficking conviction

FARGO, ND — A Jamestown woman is sentenced to just over 8 years in prison following a firearms trafficking conviction.

Court documents say April Bergman stole 35 guns from a business in Jamestown, three of which authorities say were used to trade for drugs. Additionally, court documents say Bergman received three firearms authorities claimed would have led to a felony.

“The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act gave our prosecutors valuable tools to confront firearms trafficking,” United States Attorney Mac Schneider said in a statement. “As this strong sentence shows, we will aggressively use those tools to keep firearms out of the hands of convicted felons and those who commit violent crimes. I am grateful for the dogged determination of our law enforcement partners not only for ensuring justice in this case, but also for making sure these firearms were removed from the illicit market.”

Bergman pled guilty to firearms trafficking and possession of a firearm in March of 2024. She was convicted under new provisions provided by the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act signed into law in June of 2022.
