(South Lake Tahoe, CA) -- Break-ins are on the rise in South Lake Tahoe, in Northern California, however the culprits are not criminals but rather bears.
SF Gate is reporting there's been a high number of homes ransacked by bruins. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office says the rate has "doubled or tripled" in recent days. That's because the 22-thousand residents had to flee their homes from the Caldor Fire, allowing the bears to roam with little interference from humans.
Bears have broken into multiple homes in search of food, after their natural habitats have been threatened by wildfire.
