Moorhead Schools Changes Medication Protocol

Moorhead Public Schools Superintendent Brandon Lunak tells WZFG Radio that changes are being made to the district's procedures in the area of dispensing medications to students.  The change comes after a student at Horizon Middle School was given an incorrect medication on the first day of school.

Lunak tells the Need To Know Morning Show that the student was given Adderall by a district employee in error, which was discovered when the student returned home and a parent noticed the student didn't seem right.  The medication was intended for another student with the same first name, which in Lunak's words was a "unique" first name, but the last name was not checked.  The student has not had any negative effects from the incident, but Lunak says that the process for dispensing medications will change to include a photo of the child on the container which holds the medications for that student.

Lunak would not comment when asked if the employee who made the error is still employed by the district.
