German languages students help stage cultural event

Fargo Public Schools German language instructor Katie Wangstad’s high school students have created displays and will volunteer at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County’s annual German Kulturfest
on Saturday, September 14. The six German Language Levels III and IV students from South High School have each created a poster about unique hotels in Germany. The 32 students in German 1B and II created a poster on German inventions, products, and sights.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Heritage Hjemkomst Interpretive Center, 202 1st Avenue North, Moorhead.

Students from the South High German Language Club will also complete a community service project by volunteering during the event at a children’s craft activity station, where they will assist in making German Tiroler hats for the younger event goers, along with a word search sheet using German cognates, and a coloring sheet.

German Kulturfest at the Hjemkomst Center celebrates German cultural heritage of past immigrants and of contemporary Germany with a combination of folk arts and modern performances and demonstrations.
