Mahoney proclaims today as 'Vern Bennett Day'

Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney has issued a proclamation to honor Dr. Vern Bennett, who served the public in a variety of capacities for more than four decades. Bennett passed away at age 86. Mayor Mahoney has recognized Bennett’s contributions to the Fargo community as a longtime Fargo Public Schools superintendent and a Cass County Commissioner by proclaiming today as “Vern Bennett Day.”

Bennett spent 28 years as superintendent of Fargo Public Schools, making him the longest tenured superintendent in the district’s history. At the time of his passing, he was the longest-serving member of the Cass County Commission. He was first elected as a commissioner in 2002.

“Vern Bennett will be remembered for his willingness to serve, his thoughtfulness as a leader and his genuine nature. His life’s work has helped shape the Fargo community and the communities around us as well,” remarked Mayor Mahoney.
