Accident kills two in northwest Minnesota

 

Today, at approximately 12:54 p.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Crookston Area Ambulance and Crookston Fire Department, were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Polk County Road 46 and 270th Street Southwest.

A 2001 Mazda Tribute was westbound on 270th Avenue Southwest, and failed to yield to a 2019 Freightliner M2, which was southbound on County Road 46.  The driver of the Freightliner, Robert Arnett, of Silver Bay, Minn., was uninjured. The driver of the Mazda, a 36-year-old male from Fertile, Minn., and his passenger, a 33-year-old female from Winger, Minn., were pronounced deceased at the scene.  The deceased male and female were transported to the UND Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. 

Also assisting at the scene was the Minnesota State Patrol.

The names of the victims will be released pending next of kin notification.
