West Fargo Public Library, West Fargo Public School to host classical virtuoso

West Fargo Public Library and West Fargo Public Schools will host a classical guitar recital by acclaimed guitarist Peter Fletcher at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the Sheyenne High School Theater. The recital is free and open to the public.

Mr. Fletcher is a well-traveled, highly-regarded classical guitarist with multiple recordings in his catalog, who performs more than 100 concerts per year. Mr. Fletcher will also spend time with local teacher, Mark Berntson and his guitar students at both West Fargo High School and Sheyenne High School during the day.

Peter Fletcher offers an audience-friendly, solo recital including music that runs the gamut from the Baroque Period through the 20th century. His current recital program features “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “Lute Suite No. 1” by J. S. Bach, Paganini’s ever popular “Caprice No. 24,” the fiendishly difficult “Five Bagatelles” by British composer William Walton, and “Recuerdos de la Alhambra,” a great favorite among audiences, by Spanish composer Francisco Tarrega.

In addition, Peter will perform a very special solo version of Vivaldi’s “Concerto in D Major”, and two of his original transcriptions from his critically acclaimed Fedrico Mompou album, released on Centaur Records in 2002. The concert will culminate with Isaac Albeniz’s “Rumores de la Caleta,” one of the most exciting Spanish works in the classical guitar repertoire.
