Moorhead Public School referendum overwhelmingly passes

Preliminary numbers from the Moorhead Public Schools shows an overwhelming majority approved the referendum voted upon Tuesday night.

According to preliminary numbers from the school districts, 5,066 voted in favor of the referendum, while 1,655 voted against it.

Once made official, the $110 million bond would provide for growth and learning by rebuilding the Moorhead High School, to serve between 2,200 and 2,400 students on the existing site and renovating the former Sam's Club building, which will serve as a career academy, providing all secondary students with multiple opportunities to explore career pathways.

The construction project is planned in phases to ensure that educational excellence for students is not compromised. The career academy will be opened first. Students will be taught in the existing building and career academy while the educational wings are built to the north of the school.
