NDSU cancels international travel due to COVID-19 concerns

North Dakota State University is canceling all University-funded and sponsored international travel leaving the United States, amid concerns over the quickly spreading Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said, “WHO has been assessing this outbreak around-the-clock, and we’re deeply concerned, both by the alarming levels of spread and severity.” He later characterized COVID-19 as a “pandemic”. WHO officials had been reluctant to make the characterization.

At NDSU, the changes in travel are in place until March 31. Officials will monitor the situation to determine if the date needs to be modified.

University students, staff and faculty already abroad are encouraged to consider returning home. Anyone experiencing symptoms are asked to refrain from returning to campus and contact their medical provider.
