Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding to Boost Economic Development in Indian Country

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced four federal grants totaling $204,000 to support economic growth on the Turtle Mountain, Fort Berthold, Spirit Lake, and Sisseton-Wahpeton reservations.

“Within North Dakota’s tribal communities, I’ve met with young people and entrepreneurs who are capable and ready to chart a course toward long-term economic growth and prosperity on our reservations,” said Heitkamp. “These federal funds will help Spirit Lake, Turtle Mountain, Sisseton-Wahpeton, and the Three Affiliated Tribes map out economic development strategies that will lower unemployment, increase opportunities for Native youth, and build successful businesses that will attract additional investment. I’ve long pushed for increased economic diversification on North Dakota’s reservations, and this funding is another major step in crafting comprehensive solutions to bring more jobs to Indian Country and more public and private opportunities to tribal citizens.”
