Fargo middle schools to host virtual dance party

On Friday, May 8, the student body from Ben Franklin, Carl Ben Eielson, and Discovery Middle Schools will participate in a Dance Party. At 10:00 a.m., the dance party will take place in each student’s respective homes as three songs, The Church Clap, Cupid Shuffle, and the Cha Cha Slide, are played by local radio station Y-94. This dance party is to encourage students to move and Zoom. The first 100 students to sign into Zoom will be able to participate in the virtual dance party. The rest of the community is encouraged to dance to the songs when they are played on Y-94.

This dance party is the brainchild of Discovery Middle School Physical Education teacher André Zimiga, who wanted to mirror the cheers that take place in New York City, thanking the essential employees for their work. The intention is to have a community distance moving experience, not only for Fargo Public Schools students, but the entire Fargo/West Fargo/Moorhead metro. Students learned the dances earlier in the school year, but the teachers wanted to give students an opportunity to empower themselves by sharing with family members, and their community, from a distance.
