Kennedy Elementary Awarded Community Innovative Grant

On Monday, November 5, Kennedy Elementary School in Fargo was awarded a “Community Innovation Grant” for the 2018-19 School Year to improve the quality of social and emotional learning in the classroom, which will crossover to societal context and a broad community impact. All stakeholders, (school, families, and community) must work together to support the broader implementation of systemic, evidence-based programming that is generalized to benefit disadvantaged populations within the community.

This competitive grant will provide a universal intervention, improving social, emotional, and academic skills among all students at Kennedy Elementary School. This program also engages the community and families in service-learning aimed at improving the quality of life through school-embedded charitable work throughout the Fargo community by allowing classrooms or grade levels to complete project-based service learning projects while giving back to the community. Part of their School Improvement Plan is focused on teaching “empathy” and the 21st Century Skills of critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
