A non-resident, who voted in the November 6 election in Grand Forks County, is facing a Class C Felony charge of ‘Election Offense – Not Qualified.’
According to court documents, 24-year-old Mohamed Jam Awad voted in the November 6 election. On December 4, officials received a request from the Grand Forks County Elections Assistant, asking to follow up on an election violation.
Information from the state’s central election system discovered that Awad voted, and is not a United States Citizen. Officials with the Department of Homeland Security confirmed the status. His parents are citizens of Somalia.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Awad.
