No travel advised on state highways in Douglas, Grant counties
Interstate 94 near Barnesville reopened to traffic
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – (1 p.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation has enacted a no travel advisory on the following state and federal highways in Douglas and Grant counties due to dangerous driving conditions:
· Interstate 94 from the Otter Tail/Grant County line to Osakis
· Highway 27 from Hoffman to I-94
· Highway 29 from Parkers Prairie to Highway 55
· Highway 54 from Highway 79 to Highway 27
· Highway 55 from Barrett to Hoffman
· Highway 59 from Elbow Lake to Highway 27
· Highway 79 from Elbow Lake to I-94
· Highway 78 from I-94 to the Otter Tail/Douglas County line
· Highway 114 from I-94 to Highway 55
Snowplows continue to operate, but motorists are advised not to travel in these areas until conditions improve.
In addition, Interstate 94 near Barnesville has been reopened to traffic. The road was closed earlier due to a jackknifed semi.
With the combination of high sustained wind speeds, wind gusts and ice covered or compacted roads, driving conditions are becoming hazardous throughout west central Minnesota leading to crashes and spin outs. Motorists should avoid all unnecessary travel.
MnDOT snow plows are out and operate between 20 and 30 miles per hour during a snow storm. Motorists who choose to travel must reduce their speed, watch for snow plows and be prepared to slow down or stop if necessary.
