USDA Awards Money to Water Infrastructure Projects

The USDA is awarding money in the form of grants and loans to three different water infrastructure projects in North Dakota. Combined, more than five million dollars is being awarded in North Dakota alone. In the City of McClusky, a $2.4 million loan, plus a $1.9 million grant is being awarded. The funding will be used to fund Phase 1 of a major water, sewer and storm sewer project in the city. Parts of McClusky's current water distribution and wastewater systems are over 75 years old and the systems need to be repaired or replaced. In Lakota, $601,000 in loans and $546,000 in grants are being given to install new water meters and replace the current 98-year-old water tower. The Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe will be receiving a $116,000 loan to help finance storm sewer infrastructure improvements for a new housing development. These federal funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Water and Waste Water Disposal Loan & Grant Program. This program assists rural and tribal communities with federal resources to construct drinking water, waste water, and storm water systems.
