Fair McEvers elected Chief Justice of N.D. Supreme Court

BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakota has a new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Justice Lisa Fair McEvers received 48 votes after the ballots were opened Wednesday morning in Bismarck. Her opponent, Justice Jerod Tufte, received nine votes.

“I will pledge to serve all the judiciary,” Fair McEvers said.

She begins her new role on January 1, succeeding Jon Jensen, who announced he would not be seeking another term as Chief Justice.

Fair McEvers is the first woman to serve as Chief Justice.
