NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Friends and family gathered Saturday, January 3, to remember 22-year-old Jorden Boehm, the victim in a deadly New Year’s Day shooting in Wilkin County.
In a New Rockford home Saturday, dozens gathered not to mourn how Boehm died but to celebrate how he lived.
The 22-year-old was killed early New Year’s Day in a shooting on Highway 75 near Wolverton. His mother, Michelle Sanger, says Boehm was more than that tragedy.
“He was a very happy kid, very happy kid. I mean, he struggled, I guess once in a while, but he was a very happy kid. He was always there to help anybody and everybody who needed it,” Sanger said.
Family and friends say Boehm was passionate about cars and had high hopes to one day own his own auto shop. His impact reached far beyond his 22 years.
“Jorden was a guy who even if he was feeling down, he always made sure he could lift you up as much as he could. He was never the guy to try and put you down,” said Elijah Dean-Scott, Boehm’s friend.
Myron Johanson, 26, has been charged with third-degree murder in Boehm’s death. But Saturday wasn’t about the suspect — it was about the victim and the legacy he leaves behind.
“He was a very open, honest, just all around fun kid to be with. I was always proud of him for everything he did and you know, always would go back to anything and everything he wanted to do,” said Jon Boehm, Jorden’s father.
The family says they’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of community support they’ve been receiving. Arrangements for the funeral are still being finalized.
Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public. Johanson remains in custody.
