Fargo Police Chief says too many criminals are reoffending, Cass Co. State’s Attorney responds

FARGO, N.D – Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski says too many criminals are reoffending after getting out of jail or prison.

“If we don’t have people held accountable in the prosecution or incarceration side, we’re getting them back. That’s an ongoing discussion with not only our city, but with the Legislature and the Department of Corrections,” Zibolski said.

Cass County State’s Attorney Kim Hegvik tells Flag Family News she doesn’t feel Zibolski was calling out her or her office.

She says sometimes she and Zibolski don’t agree on sentencing recommendations and ultimately a judge serves the sentence.

Hegvik adds the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation determines if a convict is released early.
