Fargo Police respond to incident on 35th Street South

FARGO, ND – Two Fargo residents are in jail after the Red River Valley SWAT team assisted Fargo Police in bringing a domestic disturbance to an end in Fargo.

Jessica Maher and Justin Peterson, both 37-year-old Fargo residents, were arrested. Maher faces charges of assault on a peace officer and domestic assault, while Peterson faces charges in connection with an earlier incident in which he allegedly terrorized hotel staff with a machete. They were arrested at 10 p.m. after a three-hour standoff with authorities.

Police were called to the 1400 block of 35th Street South at just before 7 p.m. on a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, officers encountered three uncooperative individuals in a hotel room. One left the room and alleged he had been assaulted by an adult female in the room. Further attempts to engage the other two remaining were not successful.

SWAT was activated due to the violent actions of those involved and their criminal history.
