FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The man arrested after a nearly four-hour standoff with police in north Fargo has an extensive criminal record spanning both North Dakota and Minnesota.

Damon Peterson was taken into custody following the deployment of flash bangs after officers attempted to serve an outstanding warrant for a parole violation on Broadway. The SWAT team response was mobilized due in part to Peterson’s criminal history.

The outstanding parole violation was related to a previous burglary conviction. Peterson was convicted of third-degree burglary in Clay County in 2020.

Multiple convictions in Minnesota

In Clay County alone, Peterson has been convicted of burglary, domestic assault, receiving stolen property in two separate cases, and two separate theft convictions.

The receiving stolen property conviction resulted from a guilty plea that had six other criminal counts dismissed.

Extensive North Dakota charges

Peterson has another lengthy list of charges in North Dakota. In Cass County, he has had felony charges in five different cases, with charges ranging from terrorizing to domestic violence to preventing arrest to simple assault of a peace officer.

In two of the cases, the most serious charges, terrorizing and felonious restraint, were dismissed following guilty pleas.

Peterson has 21 cases listed in the North Dakota court system and has been extradited from North Dakota four times as a fugitive from justice.

Peterson was sentenced to 13 months in jail in February for the receiving stolen property case in Minnesota. The jail time was concurrent with three other cases.
