Fargo’s camping ban impacting homeless set to begin

(FARGO, ND) – The City of Fargo’s camping ban that targets the homeless population is set to take effect later this week on May 1st.

Originally, the ban was set to start at the beginning of April.

But back in March, the Fargo City Commission voted to extend a delay that was already in place through so-called “camping resolution”.

The idea behind the pause revolved around buying more time to come up with solutions to help the homeless.

At the time, Assistant City Administrator Brenda Derrig also told commissioners the extension would put the resolution into alignment with the ending of the city’s winter warming shelter program.

As the ground continues to firm up, Fargo Cass Public Health Director Jenn Faul says cleanup will begin, especially across the banks of the Red River.
