Fergie’s Bookshops announces closure

FARGO, N.D. – A locally-owned bookstore is closing its doors.

Fergie’s Bookshops, which began as Ferguson Books, has announced its last day operating inside Daily’s Market in Fargo will be January 30.

“This decision has been made with much prayer, reflection, and honest discernment,” owner Dane Ferguson posted on Facebook. “What began as a simple belief in the power of books and community grew into something far bigger than I ever imagined.”

He said that, while Fergie’s Bookshops is closing, they’re working with, and advising, a new, locally owned bookstore opening later this year.

Overbooked is set to open at a location that has not been made public.

“I wholeheartedly encourage our customers and the broader community to support this new store when it opens and to continue championing independent bookstores,” Ferguson said.

He called owning Ferguson Books not just a business, but also a ‘mission, a calling, and a season of life.’
