FRAZEE, MINN. (Valley News Live) – A Christmas display in Frazee is drawing attention for its message spelled out in lights across a homeowner’s roof: “We are Charlie Kirk.”
The display honors the conservative political activist and close ally of President Trump who was assassinated in Utah while speaking at a Turning Point USA event on September 10.
Homeowner Jim Schermerhorn said the message extends beyond politics.
“My thought process with it a lot of people said it was political to me it’s more about his message,” Schermerhorn said. “I think he was a great example he combated with words instead of violence.”
The rooftop tribute came together as a last-minute project, according to Schermerhorn.
“Really I just used some scrap plywood from the shop,” he said. “A little help from the internet on how to draw the letters the correct size, $50 in lights from Amazon overnight and two days later I had a sign on the roof.”
The display has generated mostly positive reactions from the community, Schermerhorn says.
“99% has been positive,” Schermerhorn said. “I’ve had a few negative, I did post it to a Charlie Kirk page and that’s been completely all positive.”
For Schermerhorn, the display represents his way to honor a message he believes in.
