(GRAND FORKS, ND) – Grand Forks County has initiated a burn ban.
“In coordination with the Commission Chair, the Grand Forks County Sheriff has issued a burn ban for all of Grand Forks County for the next 72 hours,” the county wrote in a social media message. The emergency ban is due to extremely dry conditions and includes all Grand Forks County and the City of Grand Forks.
“The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, along with all rural Grand Forks County Fire Departments, have been responding to several fires that have gotten out of control,” Sheriff Andy Schneider said. “Several factors including, but not limited to temperatures, wind, forecast, ground moisture content, and amount of dry vegetation led to the decision to enact the 72-hour emergency ban.”
Temperatures in the 90s, along with windy conditions, are expected through mid-week.
