(GRAND FORKS) – The suspect in Wednesday’s armed robbery in the 1300 block of South Washington Street in Grand Forks has been arrested.
According to the Grand Forks Police Department, officers on routine patrol Thursday observed a male matching the description of the suspect and requested additional patrol units to the area of 2000 South Washington Street, near Orton’s gas station.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Ronald F. Vondal-Nelson, of Grand Forks, was on his phone and walking through a parking lot when he observed the officer. When the officer got out of his squad car to make contact with him, Vondal-Nelson took off running on foot.
After running around Orton’s gas station, Vondal-Nelson fled to the south and then west, but encountered other officers that were arriving in the area.
Vondal-Nelson was taken into custody without further incident behind Skip’s Budget Drug, in the 2000 block of Library Circle.
He has been taken to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center and charged with robbery, preventing arrest, refusal to halt and possession of drug paraphernalia.
