FARGO, N.D. – Icy road conditions continue across the metro.
“The roads have flash frozen,” North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind said. “They’re completely ice-covered here in the metro area.”
Conditions slightly improve once drivers are outside of town, but drivers should be expecting pillow drifting to occur.
I-29 has been closed from Fargo to the Canadian border in both directions.
“When you get up north of Fargo, the visibility is zero,” Niewind said. “Traffic is actually at a standstill up in the Traill County/Grand Forks County area.”
The interstate is ‘completely blocked with traffic,’ he said.
“We don’t want something bad to happen,” Niewind said.
Troopers have been responding to crashes since around 11 a.m. Sunday, both on I-29 and I-94.
“It’s just been crash after crash after crash in Fargo, because the roads are frozen and traffic just is traveling too fast in these conditions,” Niewind said.
A No Travel Advisory is in effect both in North Dakota and Minnesota.
“If you do not have to travel, stay home today,” Niewind said. “This weather is going to be continuing to stay with us with this wind until at least nine, ten o’clock tonight. Tomorrow is supposed to be better.”
