FARGO, N.D. – The need for food in North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota was big in 2025 as Great Plains Food Bank says it saw 11% more people than 2024.
The nonprofit helped more than 167,000 people adding one in five people in our region needed help. Great Plains says 39 percent of those served last year were under age 18 and 15 percent were 60 or older.
The organization gave out more than 14.8 million pounds of food in 2025 through food pantries, shelters, meal site and direct service programs.
“This increase reflects our reality across our region that more families, children, and older adults are struggling to put food on the table,” Great Plains Food Bank CEO Ann Prifrel said. “At the same time, it reinforces our responsibility to respond. We are committed to meeting this growing need while expanding our reach, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring everyone has access to the food they need to live and thrive.”
