UPDATE – Member of Indivisible Fargo-Moorhead Josh Kadrmas, who’s taking part in the “ICE out” protest, believes ICE’s actions in Minnesota are authoritarian attacks on our democracy.
“We need to do something because they’re not listening with other actions. This is not American. This is not our values. Whatever ways that we can protest with our first amendment rights to get people to pay attention. Kadrmas said.
Demonstrators are holding a protest in front of Republican Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach’s Moorhead office for their opposition to ICE.
FARGO-MOORHEAD – Several Fargo-Moorhead businesses are closed on Friday, January 30th to protest ICE’s Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota.
It’s part of a “ICE out” protest asking people to stay home from work and school and not to shop.
“Swing Barrel stands in solidarity with all who value human life, demand accountability for words and actions, and desire meaningful change,” Swing Barrel Brewing posted on social media. “Withhold your labor and buying power to send the clear message: End ICE terror!”
“This decision aligns fully with our core values and our role in the community as a safe space for everyone. We believe in accountability, caring for our neighbors, and the dignity of all people,” Rustica Eatery and Tavern owners wrote on Facebook.
“F*** ICE” a post on Harold’s On Main’s social media accounts said.
“We stand with our Minnesota Family,” Wild Terra’s Facebook page reads.
“STAND UP. FIGHT BACK,” Salt Hill Jewelry wrote on social media.
Fargo restaurant Brew Bird said it can’t participate by shutting down as it’s a small, locally-owned business that needs to make sure employees are cared for.
“We’ll be donating a portion of Brew Bird sales to organizations providing legal support and food access for immigrant families,” Brew Bird officials write on social media.
The Clay County DFL has asked people to come to a protest from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at 8th Street and 24th Avenue South in Moorhead in support of the ICE out demonstration.
