City of West Fargo Utility Customers Need to Make a Water Meter Replacement Appointment

(West Fargo, ND) -- The City of West Fargo is implementing a new metering system to improve utility services.

Residents need to schedule an appointment to replace their water meters to use the new system. Vanguard Utility Services, Inc. is the City’s contractor for this work. Residents can schedule the replacement by clicking here.

They can also call (701) 212-4304 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no charge for the meter replacement.

Residents should schedule an appointment for a time when they are home. A Vanguard representative will need to reach the existing water meter located inside the home. The appointment should last 20-40 minutes. The representatives will have Vanguard photo ID badge, uniforms and signs on their vehicles. The representatives will also wear masks and maintain social distance during the appointments.

The new system connects smart meters, communication networks and data tools. This provides communication between utilities and customers. The new system uses base stations to read water meters and send the information to billing. In the fall a customer portal will launch that allows customers to track their water usage. The system will also notify the City of service outages.

Utility rates will not increase from this project and there will be no cost to residents. The City of West Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota to incorporate this innovative system.
