(Moorhead, MN) -- A Moorhead Mayoral Candidate is running in the race to bring integrity, transparency, and a community centered lens to the position.
Kevin Shores, a Navy veteran and former cosmetologist, is a Moorhead Mayoral Candidate. He joined WDAY Midday to share his vision for the position, which included the cultivation of marijuana and hemp products, a bottom-up approach to taking care of the community, and continuing his oath of service. Shores says a big reason why he joined the race is because current Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson would have ran unopposed otherwise.
"Minimally we need a choice, "said Shores, "I put my name out there in the public. I saw that the current appointed Mayor was going to be running unopposed. So I'm thinking, in this republic - this democracy that we're in, as a veteran, we should at least get a choice. So here I am."
Shores speaks highly for his advocacy of cannabis and hemp products, saying a vast majority of the clothes he wore to the interview were made via hemp fibers. He says Moorhead has the ability to utilize unused farmland, empty buildings, and more to cultivate a powerful economic force in the region.
"There is over 100,000 byproducts that can be made from this incredible plant, "said Shores, "I don't care to play the hemp and marijuana game, because the byproducts of cannabis doesn't care if it has THC in it...It's not just for the consuming and recreational purpose, you can make all these other byproducts from it."
