Breaking: I-29 and I-94 seeing closures as severe winter storm hits North Dakota

(Update: 6:37 p.m) -- More roads are experiencing closures as a severe winter storm is resting in our area.

In the latest update from the North Dakota Department of Transportation, I-29 between the South Dakota Border and Grand Forks is now closed in both directions. A no travel advisory is being issued for several counties in our area, with a majority of eastern counties in the state experiencing severe winter weather and travel impacts. Closures from previous updates, including I-94 between Fargo and Bismarck, remain in effect as of this publication.

(Update: 5:14 p.m) -- Several counties are now under no travel advisories as a severe winter storm is hitting North Dakota.

Counties along the Minnesota and South Dakota borders are currently under no travel advisories. I-29 between the South Dakota border and Fargo is closed, but is still open north of the metro area to the Canadian border. I-94 between West Fargo and Bismarck is also closed. Authorities are urging for residents to stay off the roads unless in an emergency situation. 

"As this winter storm progresses, Cass County roads are becoming impassable due to poor visibility and drifting accumulation on the roadways, "said The Cass County Sheriff's Office in a statement to WDAY Radio, "The Cass County Road Department is not able to keep up with the storm due to the deteriorating conditions."

The City of Fargo is also closing 19th Ave N due to poor weather conditions. This is occurring between 18th St. and Dakota Dr. starting at 5:30 p.m this evening. Traffic will be detoured to 12th Ave. N. by taking Dakota Dr. and 18th St.

(Update: 3:14 p.m) -- Several roads are seeing road closures as severe winter weather is entering our region.

I-94 between Fargo and Bismarck is closed going both directions, and I-29 between the South Dakota Border and Fargo is also closed. Other road closures in our region include ND 36, ND 34, ND 13, ND 11, ND 46, and US 281 between Jamestown and the South Dakota border, with others expected to see closures as well. No travel advisories are in place throughout several counties in south-eastern North Dakota, with travel alerts in place across north-eastern North Dakota, and others in central portions of the state.

(Fargo, ND) -- Road conditions are beginning to deteriorate as a severe winter storm is starting to hit our region.

I-94 between Fargo and the South Dakota border are now closed in both directions. In addition, ND 13 is closed both directions between Mooreton and Wahpeton. Multiple closures are expected to be announced as conditions continue to deteriorate across the region.

In addition to road closures,as No Travel Advisories are now in place across multiple south-east counties in North Dakota.. This will continue to deteriorate throughout the day and into Wednesday.
