(Fargo, ND) -- Cass County officials say that sandbagging will start next week for flood-vulnerable areas.

Deputy County Engineer Tom Soucy said during a Monday meeting that the county is looking to fill 100-thousand sandbags before river levels start to rise with the expected spring melt.

Just over six miles worth of protection is being planned.

The National Weather Service says with the most recent snowfall, the Red River could crest to just under 39 feet this Spring, a similar level seen back in 2011.
