(Grand Forks, ND) -- The Grand Forks Police Department has received several reports of counterfeit money being passed at local businesses.

The Department tells WDAY Radio that counterfeit currency has appeared in both $100 and $20 denominations and appear legitimate at first glance, however there are several key features to help identify them as counterfeit:

  • Paper quality is noticeably different compared to legitimate US currency.
  • The counterfeit bills contain the same serial number on them: KP58247039Y
  • The word “REPLICA” in several locations.
  • Watermarks and other security features are not present.

If a business believes a counterfeit bill has been presented at their establishment, they are asked to please contact the Grand Forks Police Department at (701) 787-8000 for an officer response.

This is an ongoing investigation at this time. Anyone with information, is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department at the number above, submit a tip via the GFPD’s Facebook or website or via the Tip411 app.
