(Fargo, ND) -- A man in south Fargo was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in his apartment bedroom Sunday afternoon.

The incident prompted the immediate response of firefighters who were alerted just before 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. That's when crews found black smoke billowing out of a window after arriving on scene.

The blaze was contained in just a matter of minutes, and was prevented from spreading to other parts of the building. Although the apartment unit sustained smoke damage, there was no damage to other apartments in the complex.

The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital for further medical evaluation. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
