City of Fargo, Fargo Rape and Abuse Crisis Center recognize National Crime Victims' Rights Week

(Fargo, ND) -- National Crime Victims' Rights Week is underway nationwide, and here in Fargo, City Hall will be lighting up purple this week to commemorate the week.

NCVRW calls attention to the strides that have been made for victims of crime seeking justice. Since its passage in North Dakota in 2016, Marsy's Law has ensured that all victims of crime have enforceable constitutional rights as they go through the criminal justice process.

"This National Crime Victims' Rights Week, the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo Moorhead wants survivors to know that they are heard, believed, and supported," said CEO of the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center Dr. Chris Johnson. "This week we pay tribute to victims and the many dedicated professionals who diligently advocate on their behalf. RACC is committed to transforming our community's response to violence and abuse to ensure healing and personal safety for all."

Local organizations like Fargo's own Rape and Abuse Crisis Center are commemorating the week, as well as April's National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Dr. Johnson adds that the focus normally on crime involves the criminal justice system, and sometimes not the victim's wants and needs. He says this week stands out for those who are victims of those crimes, and making the community and region safe for them.
